Practical guides for keeping control of your work — from backing up Slack to editing HTML and AI-generated pages.
A local Slack backup keeps your messages and your login on your own computer, not a vendor's cloud. What stays put, what the AI actually sees under BYOK, and why local still isn't automatically safe — that's what this is about.
Slack's official export is a pile of JSON — user IDs, Unix timestamps, and file links, not readable chat. You can make it legible and searchable, or skip the export for a readable archive from the start.
Slack's export saves file links more than the files, and the free plan quietly drops old attachments. This is what to grab first, why the free plan takes files with it, and how to pull the ones you can still open into a local archive sorted by conversation.
Your last week of Slack access is a closing window. Download the DMs, private channels and files you're allowed to keep, then check they actually saved — all before your account switches off for good.
You don't need admin rights to export your own Slack DMs. Your signed-in account can already open them, so the right no-admin tool just saves what's in front of you — this covers which tools do it and how to stay inside your employer's rules.
Two very different jobs get sold under the words "Slack backup." One keeps your own conversations searchable on your machine; the other guards a whole company. One question tells you which you actually need.
Neither WYSIWYG nor a code editor wins for editing HTML — it depends on the task. A by-task guide to when to use each, and the case for a tool that keeps both in sync.
Your HTML edit saved fine but the page still looks identical? The usual causes are a browser cache, a wrong file, a .html.txt extension, DevTools-only edits, or CSS being overridden — with the quick fix for each.
Yes, you can edit an HTML file online without uploading it — how a client-side editor keeps your file in the browser, and how to check any tool in the Network tab before you trust it with something private.
"A website Claude made" means three different things — a re-openable artifact, a single .html file, or a Claude Code project. Which one you have decides how you edit it.
Stop the save-switch-refresh loop. How live preview shows HTML changes as you type, lets you click the preview to find the matching code, and helps you check the page at phone width.
How to edit an HTML file with no connection — the two real offline options, and the one-time-internet caveat of a single editor file you download and keep.
