Terms of Service
Last updated: June 27, 2026
These Terms govern your use of Empowia for Slack (the “app”) and the empowia.com website. By downloading, installing, or using the app, or by using the website, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use them.
1. What Empowia is
Empowia for Slack is a Windows desktop application that backs up Slack workspaces to your own computer and makes them searchable. It runs locally on your machine and has no cloud component that receives your Slack data.
2. Your licence
When you download Empowia, you receive a licence to use it:
- The free version is fully featured but limited in scope — it backs up up to a set number of conversations.
- A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited use, delivered as an offline unlock code. This is a lifetime licence for the product — there is no subscription.
This licence is personal to you (or your organisation) and is non-transferable. You agree not to resell, redistribute, or publish your unlock code, and not to copy, rent, or reverse-engineer the app except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
3. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for how you use Empowia. In particular:
- You must have the right to access and back up the Slack content you choose to save. Only back up workspaces and conversations you are entitled to.
- You are responsible for complying with Slack’s own terms and with your employer’s or organisation’s policies on exporting and storing messages and files. (If you’re unsure whether your use is permitted, check Slack’s terms and ask your administrator.)
- Because your backup is stored on your own computer, you are responsible for keeping it secure.
- You must not use Empowia for any unlawful purpose or to infringe anyone’s rights.
4. Installation note (unsigned builds)
The website build of Empowia may not yet be code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen can show a warning on first run. This is expected; you choose whether to proceed (“More info → Run anyway”). You install and run the app at your own discretion.
5. Payments and unlock codes
The price and delivery of the paid unlock are described on our pricing and download pages. Unlock codes are verified offline by the app — there is no account and nothing “phones home.” Treat your unlock code like a receipt: keep it safe and don’t share it.
6. Third-party services
Empowia works with services you bring yourself:
- Slack is a third-party service operated by Slack Technologies / Salesforce. Empowia is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Slack. “Slack” is a trademark of its owner.
- AI providers (such as Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI) are used only with your own API key and under their own terms.
We aren’t responsible for the availability, terms, or actions of these third-party services.
7. No warranty
Empowia is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don’t warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will capture every message in every situation. Empowia supports Windows 10 and 11 only.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Empowia and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of the app or website. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the licence, if any. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Changes and termination
We may update the app and these Terms over time; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these Terms — for example, by redistributing unlock codes. You may stop using Empowia at any time by deleting it.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [your jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. (Please complete before launch.)
