First launch: getting past Windows SmartScreen
We’re an independent developer and haven’t bought a Microsoft code-signing certificate yet, so on the portable build Windows shows a one-time warning. It’s safe to continue — here’s how:

First time opening on macOS?
Empowia isn’t notarized by Apple yet, so the first time you open it macOS asks you to confirm it’s safe. This is a one-time step — macOS remembers it.
- 1Unzip Empowia-macOS-arm64.zip and move Empowia.app into Applications.
- 2Double-click Empowia → “can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it…” → click Done.
- 3Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway.
- 4Confirm with Touch ID or your password, then click Open.
If you instead see “Empowia is damaged”, open Terminal and run: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Empowia.app — then open it normally.
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit / x64 — runs on ARM PCs via emulation), or macOS on Apple Silicon (M1 or later)
- On Windows: the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime — already on Windows 11; if it’s missing, the app opens Microsoft’s free download for you
- A Slack account you’re signed into
- Optional: an AI key (Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or OpenRouter) for the AI features
