Help & support
Quick answers to the things people ask most — and where to turn when you need a hand.
Common fixes
The portable download shows a “Windows protected your PC” warning
The portable build isn’t code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen flags it the first time. It’s safe to continue: click “More info,” then “Run anyway.” The Microsoft Store edition is signed and skips this screen entirely — the download page walks through it step by step.
My unlock code won’t activate
Paste the whole code — including the EMPW- prefix — into the Home banner’s “Have a code? Paste it here” box, or Settings → License, and click Activate. It’s verified offline, so no internet is needed. If it won’t take, first update to the latest version — older builds could reject a code whose dashes your email app had quietly rewritten. Then re-copy the code as plain text (in case a character was dropped or duplicated) and try again. A retyped or altered code won’t pass the check.
I didn’t receive my unlock code
It’s emailed the moment your payment goes through — check your spam or promotions folder. You can also sign in to your account to view and re-send it any time. Still nothing? Contact us with the email you paid with and we’ll sort it out.
Refunds and billing
Payments run through Stripe. If Empowia isn’t for you, get in touch and we’ll help — the refund policy has the details. Because unlock codes are delivered instantly, we suggest trying the free version first to be sure it fits.
Where is my backup stored?
Everything stays on your computer — no cloud, no server. Where exactly depends on the edition: the portable version keeps a data folder right next to the app, which you can move or copy like any other. The Microsoft Store version keeps its data in a private, Windows-managed location you can’t reliably reach in Explorer — so to back it up or move it, use Settings → Back up & restore → Export (and Import on the other machine) rather than copying the folder.
Can I keep the app in Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive?
It’s not recommended — it’s best to keep the portable app and its data folder on a local disk rather than inside a cloud-synced folder. While Empowia is running it keeps a live database open, and Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive may try to sync it mid-write, which can occasionally cause a “conflicted copy” duplicate or, more rarely, a damaged archive. If you’d like a copy in the cloud, the safe way is Settings → Back up & restore → Export, then drop the resulting .zip into your cloud folder — a static file syncs fine. The Store edition isn’t affected, since Windows manages its location.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 today. macOS and Linux are on the way — leave your email on the download page and we’ll tell you the moment they land.
Do I need a Slack admin or an API token?
No. Empowia reuses the Slack session you’re already signed into — there’s no app to register and no token to paste. If you can see it in Slack, you can back it up.
