Empowia

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 27, 2026

Empowia builds Empowia for Slack, a Windows app that backs up your Slack to your own computer. This policy explains what data we do and don’t handle — both in the app and on this website (empowia.com).

The short version: the app stores everything on your machine and sends us nothing. The website collects only what it needs to answer your messages, process a purchase, and keep out spam.

1. The app keeps your data on your computer

Empowia for Slack is a fully local application. When you use it:

  • Your backup, files, and Slack sign-in stay on your own computer. They are never uploaded to us — Empowia has no cloud and no servers that receive your Slack data.
  • We collect no telemetry, no analytics, and no crash reports from the app.
  • Your Slack session and credentials are protected at rest by Windows, tied to your Windows user account.
  • AI features are bring-your-own-key. When you use them, the app talks directly to the AI provider you chose (for example Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI) using your API key. Your prompts and the relevant archive content go to that provider under their privacy terms — not through any Empowia server. Choose and review your provider accordingly.

Because the app sends us nothing, there is no app data for us to access, sell, or lose.

2. What this website collects

We keep this deliberately minimal. We collect:

Information you give us

  • Email address — when you ask to be notified about a product, contact us, or buy a licence.
  • Form content — for example, which tool you’d like us to support, or the message you send us.
  • Comments — the name and text you submit on a blog post.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic server logs — such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps, kept to operate and secure the site. We do not run advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies.

Payment information

  • When you buy a licence, payment is handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation that a purchase happened and the email needed to deliver your unlock code — we never receive your full card number.

3. Why we use it, and our legal bases

  • To reply to you and provide support (your request; our legitimate interest).
  • To deliver your purchase by sending the unlock code (performance of a contract).
  • To prevent spam and abuse on forms and comments, using Cloudflare Turnstile (legitimate interest).
  • To meet legal and accounting obligations, such as keeping records of purchases.

Where the law requires consent — for example, optional updates you opt into — we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use only what’s necessary:

  • Cloudflare Turnstile sets short-lived tokens to tell humans from bots on our forms.
  • A small token is used for the owner-only moderation area; it isn’t used for visitors.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics that profile you.

5. Who we share it with (our service providers)

We do not sell your data. We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the site, who process data only on our behalf and under contract:

  • Vercel — website hosting.
  • Neon — database (stores form submissions, comments, and purchase records).
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Resend — sending transactional email, such as your unlock code.
  • Cloudflare — anti-spam (Turnstile).

These providers may process data in the United States or other countries; where required, such transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards (for example, Standard Contractual Clauses).

AI providers are not our processors. When you use the app’s AI features with your own key, your relationship is directly with that provider.

6. How long we keep it

  • Purchase records — kept as long as needed to support your licence and to meet legal and accounting requirements.
  • Form submissions and comments — kept until they’re no longer needed for the purpose you sent them, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Server logs — kept for a short period for security and diagnostics.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live — for example under the EU/UK GDPR or California’s CCPA — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email support@empowia.com and we’ll respond within the time the law allows. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

8. Children

Empowia isn’t directed at children and isn’t intended for anyone under 16. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We’ll change the “last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll make that clear on this page.
